Dear Church of the Open Bible,
This past Sunday we looked at what it was like for a group of fishermen to encounter Jesus personally, for the first time. That doesn’t mean that they had not heard Jesus speak or seen Him heal. But it wasn’t until a moment by the lake that they really met Him. And when Jesus enters your life, walks in while you’re working and meets your friends, He turns it all upside down. That’s what happened for these fishermen in Luke 5:1-11. Simon Peter reacts with humility and Jesus responds.
“And Jesus said to Simon, ‘Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.’”
“From now on…” everything was different. It wasn’t just that their occupation that changed. It was what they committed their life to, what they centered their life around, that changed. Have you experienced a moment like that? A “from now on” moment after meeting Jesus? If you have, share that moment with someone this week. If you haven’t, I encourage you to meet Jesus personally in Scripture with a humble heart.
