Dear Church of the Open Bible,

I hope you’re enjoying some cooler weather these days. We’re definitely appreciative of it here at church as we’re mid-way through our Vacation Bible School. We’ve had between 32-36 kids coming out each morning. Our theme this week is on how following Jesus is like running a race, based on Hebrews 12:1-2. On Tuesday morning, Nic and I taught about what it looks like to start the race and finish it. Five minutes after teaching the kids, I was sharing at the Long Term Care wing at the General Hospital. It was a bit jarring, but it was also good to see some of those at the start and then near the end of the races that had been set before them.

Psalms 90 asks the Lord to “teach us to number our days” so that we might be wise. But a few verses later, I love the dependence expressed in the relatively brief time we have on this earth.

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. - Psalm 90:14

Are you finding your satisfaction these days in the compassion the Lord has shown you? Does your frailty cause you to return to the steadfast love of God, relying on Him to give you joy? May this be our experience, regardless of where we find ourselves in the race of following Jesus.
